Do citations of research translate to credibility?

EasyBib http://www.easybib.com/ is a company that helps students at the high school and college level organize research papers through bibliography and note-taking features.

It offers a "Research BETA" that labels a research website credible if it is being cited by other scholars.

Discussions at three levels:
Flashlight: Type “mass communication education” into the topic area. How many citations does it take for a site to be declared “credible”? Do you agree or disagree with the standard?

Spotlight: Type in “media.” What are the most cited articles in this database on media? Why do you think those articles are cited more than others? Check the same article in Google Scholar. Is the number of citations higher, lower or the same? Why?

Searchlight: Have students compare the number of citations of articles on EasyBib or Google Scholar of different topic areas, such as journalism education, media literacy, science education, English theory, cyberpsychology and so on. Of the topics you chose, which has the greatest number of citations and why?
